County Funding Residential Backyard Conservation Practices

 

altThe Hamilton County Soil & Water Conservation District (HCSWCD) is now accepting applications for cost-share assistance for backyard conservation practices, including pond edge enhancements, rain gardens, invasive species removal, wildlife plantings, backyard ponds for wildlife, and more.  Funds are limited and 2010 priorities are similar to last year's - pond edge enhancements and rain gardens - but all applications will be considered.

If you have a project in mind, whether it's in your own backyard or encompasses your neighborhood's entire common greenspace, please contact Shaena Reinhart, Urban Conservationist for the HCSWCD (contact info at the bottom of this article). You must submit a Backyard Conservation Plan to Reinhart in order to be eligible for cost-share assistance.

All applications must be completed and turned in to to Reinhart by 4:30 p.m. on Feb. 23, 2010. The HCSWCD Board of Supervisors will review applications and select projects to fund on the morning of Feb. 25th.  The cost-share policy consists of a reimbursement process - you will be responsible for installing the conservation practice according to the specifications given in the Backyard Conservation Plan.  Once the site is installed, Reinhart will perform a site check to ensure that it has been properly completed, and then you will be reimbursed for up to 50% of the costs of the project.  The HCSWCD cannot fund any projects that have already been completed or for which contracts have been signed. The goal is to help fund projects that would not otherwise be installed without the assistance of the HCSWCD.
